Save the Arcades II
Death to Cowbots, Viva la Arcades! It's the campaign without a kill screen! Save the Arcades is back with three new arcades to save, all of which were nominated by you, our tried and true gamers.
Zapataur
Save the Arcades I
With home consoles more advanced and popular than ever, video game arcades have become more like museums than places of recreation. For many arcades, "game over" came years ago. And for the few that are still alive, nostalgic thirty-somethings can keep them on life support for only so long.
Stride showed the gaming community its philanthropic side with its initiative to Save the Arcades. Four long-running, struggling arcades were spotlighted on savethearcades.com with a call to gamers to donate their skills instead of quarters by playing Zapataur, a ridiculously tongue-in-cheek homage to 80's shooter games featuring four mythical man-beasts who band together to save the world from a lightning rod-hurling Minotaur. Players then donated their Zapataur points to one of the four arcades and the one that garnered the most points won $25,000.
The response was immediate. Within days the Save the Arcades crusade was celebrated by IGN, Reuters and Wired Magazine. In the end, Austin Texas, Arcade UFO took home the $25,000 prize, racking up nearly one billion points in only two months time.
Change Your Flavor, Change Your Life
Stride Shift
Stride Shift gum is so unbelievable, it doesn't just change flavors, it changes people's lives. Well, on Facebook at least. in a single mouse click become the rodeo clown/ostrich jockey/adventure traveller/fortune teller you've always never wanted to be.
Can't please everyone. Apparently, the instant presto life-changing power of the CYFCYL app really cheesed off some old school rodeo clown who's been at his game way before the likes of Stride and Facebook and whatnot. Check out his cautionary intro/outro videos.
Stridegum
dot com
In an effort to streamline our digital experience for Stride consumers, we embarked on an overhaul of stridegum.com. Research showed that consumers were visiting the site for two primary reasons: nutritional and flavor info, and promotions. We trashed the flash and streamlined the design to focus on flavors and promotions.
We integrated Twitter, Facebook and Flickr to make the site more social. Easter eggs and special sections like the totally made-up history of Stride and a ridiculous FAQ made for an engaging and surprising experience. The average time spent on the site is 5 minutes and people are tweeting, flickring and submitting questions.
